Mickey: Work Day 2

Description

One thousand five-hundred feet above the water Mickey’s parachute opened perfectly.  Her rush toward the sparkling blue Mediterranean Sea rapidly slowed from well over 150 miles per hour to a a very comfortable, but also vulnerable, six miles per hour.  She noted the wind direction and turned her chute to face it, negating about half of her forward speed.  A she turned she scanned the sea: there were some pleasure boats several miles off --she doubted they would spot her two miles away in the less than two minutes she would be suspended in the air.  Regardless, if they came to investigate she would be gone.  At 150 feet above the blue water she released the quick release and let her equipment bag fall away to hang on a fifty foot tether.  A few second later she felt the lose of weight as the buoyant case hit the water.  Instinctively she put her feet and knees together and flared her chute bleeding off the last of the forward speed and slowing her decent even more.  She landed in the warm water with a small gentle splash.

Mickey's head did not even go under as her small life preserver automatically inflated.  She quickly shucked her chute harness and systematically the water landing transition process: she  pulled the floating equipment bag toward her; she then pull off and dropped her helmet, mask, and combat boots into an empty compartment in the bag.; she treaded water as she shimmed out of her jump suit and stuffed the wet mass of clothes also in the expandable compartment and closed it.  Next she opened the main compartment of the bag and extracted and donned her basic dive equipment: fins first, then mask, and then her buoyancy control device (BCD).  Putting it all over the thin black bikini she wore under her jump suit.  Treading water easily with her fins on, Mickey  quickly and efficiently completed her transition actions. On went her tank and regulator, and into the equipment bag went her parachute and harness.

In training the standard for transitioning from jump equipment to dive equipment was five minutes.  Mickey zipped the equipment bag closed, removed one last piece of equipment, and opened the valves on the case flotation devices exactly three minutes after hitting the water.

As she watched her weighted equipment bag sink into the depths, Mickey let her body gently float about ten feet below the surface and consulted her compass board.  She noted the depth gauge and compass were functioning properly.  She would soon know if the odometer worked.  It was not yet one o’clock in the afternoon, and she twelve miles west of the coast of the Isle of Capri.  She estimated that she could make it to her chosen beach landing point in about a half day of swimming.  That was doable, but not easily.  Plus, she didn't have that kind of time. So, she didn’t plan to swim.

A short new adventure for my OC, Mickey Ramirez, working for the mysterious government agency with no name but lots of gadgets.

I had not planned on doing this but this and several other images popped into my head that I just had to render, and a connecting story followed soon after.

It will probably only be about five or six renders long. (I hope!) ;)
