Mech Pilot 4

Don left the equipment room and paused in the mech hanger to observe the bustle of activity as her command was prepared for the drop onto the planet Cleo.

Mech techs were in the final stages of fueling and arming the six giant 35 foot tall mechs.  Systems techs were escorting the pilots to the cockpits to assist in the complex but routine procedure of hooking the pilots physically and mentally through their implanted AI into the mech’s on board AI system.

Don sent a mental query to her own embedded AI and instantly a Troop status display projected on to her left eye smart contact lens showing all six mechs and all six pilots.  The mech status indicated that all operating systems were green and that fueling and arming was 90% complete.  The pilot status showed that all five of her subordinates were 100% mentally and physically able to begin operations.

Don knew that she herself was also ready for mission.  In the equipment room she had shed her maintenance utility uniform for the Zulu Warrior armored flight suit that was standard wear for all mech pilots.  The suit not only provided ballistic, laser and blunt force protection, but also was sealed for use in zero atmosphere conditions, monitored her vital signs, could diagnosis injuries, had the ability to perform minor surgery, administer medications, and remove waste.  It was both physically and mentally linked to her body through thousands of micro sensors, some of which integrated themselves directly into her body when she put the suit on. The sensors were then tied into her embedded AI which controlled all the functions of the suit unless Don consciously intervened.

Satisfied that all was proceeding well.  Don hefted her M14A7 assault carbine to her shoulder, tucked her combat helmet under her arm and proceeded to the lift that would take her to the access gantry serving her Mech.
