Description

The third part of what I think will be about a twenty part Blue Vixen series.

"The Blue Vixen" is an illustrated novella about the super heroine Blue Vixen. It will be uploaded here as each part is completed.

The Story starts here: Previous: Next: :

-----------------------------------------

Val woke up in the morning and immediately went to her office-gym and worked through her normal routine of stretching, abs, and light free weights while she watched the
morning news.  Thirty minutes later she was in and out of the shower and working her way through her large walk-in closet for the appropriate down-town wardrobe. Going to the big building required something more than jeans so it looked liked a pants suit was in order to go over her vicky’s lingerie.  Though she considered herself a jeans and tee shirt kind of girl, when she dressed up Val made a point of going with quality in her clothes, shoes, and her lingerie was always the best. She didn't have a large wardrobe but it was a point of pride for her to have the best.

She quickly decided on one of her St. John's suits from the several that were her normal dress up for work outfits.  A pair of Jimmy Choo block two inch heel ankle boot and knee highs and she was almost ready.  A short stop at the vanity for a light coat of shadow, mascara, and a bit of lippy and then one stop at her table for her stuff as she headed for the door. She slid her Taurus into its holster on her right hip, her badge and wallet into her coat pocket, grabbed her purse, dropped in her phone, and she was out the door.

Val walked the several blocks north to the Atlantic Avenue subway station. After a short wait she was on the train to downtown. Twenty minutes after getting on the train, Detective DeGeise stepped off at the busy Canal Street station and made the short ten minute walk to 1 Police Plaza, the headquarters of the NYPD, as well as the headquarters of the Organized Crime Control Division. She showed her badge at the security station on the ground floor, then road the elevator to the seventh floor and arrived outside the glass door entryway of the OCCD about ten minutes early. Rather than cool her heels and make polite chat with the receptionist, Val walked down two doors to the cube village where the detectives of the division worked and sought out the coffee machine she knew was there and always full.

It was protocol to dress up when visiting the division headquarters. For today's meeting Val suit was dark blue with a matching scarf.  It was definitely dressy and high quality, but not too feminine. This meeting might turn in to an argument and Val didn't want to concede the physiological advantage of arguing while dressed in a skirt and high heels. Though women made up almost twenty percent of the force, it was still an old boy's organization and if you were going to stand your ground among the boys you had to dress the part. Thus, a pants suit, though not an overly impressive fashion statement, was perfect for the day's business.

With a steaming cup of coffee in her hand Val went through the double class doors and introduced herself to the receptionist as the deputy chief’s ten o’clock appointment.  The woman, a veteran civilian employee of the force, nodded and politely told her that the deputy was in and it would only be a few minutes She nodded to several comfortable chairs where Val could wait.

True to her prediction, at precisely ten o'clock the receptionist got Val's attention, "Detective DeGiese. You can go in."

Val smiled her thanks to the receptionist, and opened the impressive cherry wood door to enter the large office of the deputy division commander of the OCCD, Assistant Chief  MacNamara.  Vincent MacNamara was a tall man, well over six foot, with broad shoulders and a square handsome face.  He was a rising star in the force and would be a deputy chief before he retired. The rumor was he was in line for promotion and the next likely head of the Detective Bureau. Also in the room were three other people. Val's quick glance identified Inspector Bill George NYPD's co-leader of the joint organized crime task force. The other two people, a man and a woman, she didn't recognize, but she assumed by their dress and the subject of the meeting, that they were FBI. Val strode up to MacNamra who had come around his desk to greet her. They shook hands in front of the desk as the other three people stood up from their seats facing MacNamara's desk.

MacNamara smiled at Val as he gripped her hand firmly, "Detective DeGeise, Val, thank you for coming all the way down here for today’s meeting.  I know visiting the puzzle palace is a real pain and I appreciate you making the time."

"No problem Sir," Val responded neutrally while at the same time thinking, like I had any choice.

MacNamara then turned Val toward the three other people in the room, "Val, I think you know Inspector George, and I'd like to introduce Special Agents Mike Andrews and Coleen Fortune. Mike is the senior agent on the joint task force."

Val nodded to George, and smiled and shook the two special agent’s offered hands while mentally evaluating them. Andrews was tall, slim and balding. He had very serious eyes and his mouth was set in what was probably a permanent straight grim line. He wore the standard issue FBI dark blue suit, starched white shirt and power tie.

Agent Coleen Fortune was very different. She was curvy and obviously well endowed. Not your typical brianiac super athlete female FBI agent.  Val estimated she was at least a D cup. Her curves were well proportioned as she was significantly taller than Val’s five foot four, probably at least five foot eight without heels; and she was definitely wearing heels, at least four inches tall to compliment gorgeous legs amply displayed by the short skirt of her grey pin-striped suit. To top off why most women undoubtedly hated her, the gorgeous FBI agent had straight blonde hair that came to the middle of her back and would have been a perfect fit on any southern California beach.

Val shook both agents’ hands as the introductions were made.  Andrews gave her a cold firm perfunctory shake and grunted an unintelligible greeting. Coleen Fortune in contrast, grasped Val's hand in both of hers, smiled and offered , "I'm so happy to meet you Detective DeGiese," while looking Val directly in the eye. The greeting caught Val's attention because, though it appeared to be appropriately sincere though a bit overly friendly, there was a glint in Fortune's eyes which was hard, almost predatory. That thought passed quickly from Val's mind as MacNamara ushered them to their seats so that he could deal with the business at hand.

Once seated the OCCD deputy chief leaned forward on his desk, teepeeing his fingers and looked directly at Val. "I won't beat around the bush DeGeise, the reason we are here today is because your task force leader told Inspector George that you weren't interested in a temporary undercover assignment with the joint task force. George brought the issue to me because, in the opinion of the task force, you are the only detective in the department who could do this assignment, and this assignment is critically important."

MacNamara held up his hand as Val sat up straighter to respond. "Wait DeGeise. Before I let you tell us why you aren't interested in this very important, and career enhancing, assignment, I'd like Agent Andrews to give us an overview of the situation which the task force is developing regarding the Marachi money laundrying investigation."  MacNamara looked at Andrews and nodded.

Andrews spent ten minutes outlining the eighteen month investigation into the Marachi organization and the progress, or lack of progress that had been made in breaking the multi-billion dollar racket. He ended his brief by describing a possible huge break in the case. "So we believe that Marachi’s called in a set of accountants to go over all of the activities of the organization for the last year to determine if in fact some of his lieutenants were ripping him off. As it turns out, they weren't. So all is well in the Marachi syndicate. But, because he did this audit, there is now a record of the entire organization, its members, its clients, the payments, the accounts, everything. We can break this case wide open if we can locate that record and turn it into evidence."

Andrews sat back, completing his very succinct appraisal of the situation. At that point Inspector George took over the story. "We think the record of the audit is on a series of memory sticks as well as on Marachi's personal computer. If we can get that verified we can get a warrant and raid his residence and take one or the other or both.  Right now we have an informant who has told us that the audit exists and that Marachi viewed it at his residence. But, he can't confirm its there. We also have an undercover agent very close to Marachi, but he doesn't have access to the residence. What we need is an informant or an undercover agent inside the residence to verify the audit is there."

"So is that what you want me to do, get inside Marachi's house?" interrupted Val.

MacNamara looked a little annoyed at Val's interruption but replied, "Yes, and no DeGeise. Andrews, why don't you explain."

Andrews nodded. "We have an invitation into Marachi’s house already. What we need you for Detective, is to help us accept that invitation."

Val gave Andrews a confused look to which he replied by asking his partner, "Coleen why don't you explain the plan to the Detective."

The blue-eyed FBI agent smiled at everyone who knew the plan and crossed her legs. Val noted that her short skirt had ridden up when she sat down and now was exposing a long length  of thigh. The agent was sitting comfortably and dangling one very expensive heel from her nylon covered toes. Val wondered if the agent understood the effect she must be having on the men present and looked at her eyes. Val instantly understood that Agent Fortune knew exactly what she was doing. Those eyes quickly focused on Val.

"I'm already undercover and have been for over a year working on infiltrating Marachi's organization. I run a small boutique uptown, but have managed to establish myself as one of Marachi’s many part-time girlfriends.  He has invited me to a show and then dinner at his home Friday night and it’s the perfect opportunity to get a look around for the any sign of the audit.  I've dated him for nine months, but we've always met at clubs, public places or hotels. This is the first time that he's asked me to visit where he lives. The problem is, the invitation is for me and a girlfriend who will be the date for one of his friends.  He has a close business associate visiting from Italy and he asked me if I could find his friend a date. I convinced him I could if he made it worth my while.  I told him I was tired of waking up with him in hotel rooms. So I'm providing you, detective, and he promises I can spend the night in his house."  Agent Fortune grinned conspiratorially at Val.
