A continuation of the situation described in:

Showdown in Dead Rock by donnaDomenitzo

Sheriff Donna kicked back and sipped her whiskey from a stone coffee cup as she observed the dusty quiet main street.  She had been the Sheriff now for six months and surprisingly, enjoyed it.   She had  learned to ride, shoot a pistol and rifle, and how to quickly and efficiently break up a bar room brawl.  Sure, the men of the town had made it part of her contract that she had to perform her duties in the skimpiest black uniform.  But it was a small price to pay for a steady pay check and a nice home on the edge of town.  Plus, the embarrassments of enforcing the law in short shorts and a bra was nothing compared to what she had experienced when she arrived in Tombstone.

She had shown up in town in the back of the evening stage from  Dead Rock, embarrassingly tied and gagged.  After the perplexed townspeople of Tombstone had helped untie her and helped her unload her carpet bags, she explained how the women's club of Dead Rock had a very unusual sense of humor whenever one of their members was forced by circumstance to relocate from that lovely town. The crowd of Tombstoners nodded as if they understood, "Them folks in Dead Rock are mighty funny in the head" they all agreed.

A bit later, once she had a chance to change from the flimsy saloon girl lingerie and freshen up, Miss Donna met with the friendly Tombstone town council to inquire about a possible school marm position.  She hated to leave Dead Rock, she explained, but the town had lost its need for a school marm and so regrettably she had to move on.

Her request was answered by silence until the Tombstone mayor spoke up.  "I'm sorry to say Miss Donna that we haven't had any youngsters of school age in Tombstone in years.  The old school has been closed up since the Cartwright boys graduated and old Ben sold it to Miss Kitty who turned it into a saloon."

One of the men in the back who helped untie Donna when she first arrived contributed, "You know Miss Kitty is always looking to hire a purty girl."

"I am not a Saloon girl," stated the petite woman emphatically as she consciously restrained herself from stomping her foot for  emphasis.

Miss Donna turned hopeful eyes to the Mayor.  "There wouldn't be any other employment in town  would there Mr. Mayor? ... Possibly something of an administrative nature?"  Donna asked hopefully as she turned her charm on the Mayor.

The Mayor was a hardened old retired cowboy and not easily swayed by a woman's charms.  Not even by a pretty little thing like Miss Donna.  He met her hopefully look with a hard eye, in which, if Donna was paying attention, she may have seen a glint of humor.

"Weeeeeeellll Miz Donna, it seems that we recently had a sudden decrease in the size of the Tombstone neighborhood dispute administration department.  Seems there was some kind of meeting down at the Oh Kay Corral and afterwards the entire department moved on.   Would you be interested in something like that?  It pays five dollars a week plus a furnished room."

Donna barely prevented a big grin from breaking out across her face.  Five dollars a week was twice what she made as a school marm.  Instead she said, "That sounds like something I have experience with."  After all, she broke up many arguments and quarrels as a teacher in Dead Rock.  "Where do I sign?" She asked.

As Miss Donna happily and hastily signed the lengthy contract without reading it; the local banker turned to the old general store owner with a puzzled look on his face and whispered, "Neighborhood Dispute Administration?"

"Sheriff's Department" answered the old store owner with a straight face.

The banker smiled "Ohhhhhhhhhhhh."

As the banker and shop keeper slapped each other on the back for finally finding a new replacement for the recently wounded and retired leader of the dispute administration department,  the Mayor was explaining to Miss Donna about how the city would provide her with a uniform and horse.

She smiled in return "I hope the uniform is not too hot."

The mayor smiled in reply, "I assure you little Lady , it will be quite comfortable., though I  hope you don't mind it wearing black."

"Not at all," replied Miss Donna happily.  "Not at all."
