Mickey: Work Day 6

Description

Mickey noted that she had about fifteen minutes before the mission execution window.  She used that time to prepare the room for her departure.  She had only been in the room an hour or so, but she carefully wiped down every surface in the room with which she may have or did have contact.  She made sure her large purse was ready to go and that her gun case was open and ready.  Satisfied that all was as ready as possible, Mickey ejected the rifle’s magazine, loaded the three bullets, reset the magazine, and then loaded one round into the chamber ready to fire.  She went to the balcony door, opened it and with a small pair of binoculars settled against the wall and observed the driveway of the Maggio villa from within the shadow of the door.  She could see the gated entryway, and beyond that the large circular driveway fronting the two story stucco and marble villa.    There was no apparent activity, but Mickey had been briefed that there was always a six man ground security force on duty.  Their abilities were irrelevant against Mickey.

During the mission window Mickey was outwardly relaxed but she was totally alert to her environment.  The mission window began fifteen minutes before the expected arrival of the target.  It ended one hour after the expected target arrival if the target had not arrived.  Once the Mickey executed the mission, a support team was standing by nearby to support her exfiltration of the area.

Twenty minutes into her wait a black Mercedes sedan with tinted glass windows rolled up to the villa gate.  Mickey watched carefully as the electrically powered gate smoothly rolled aside to the permit the vehicle access.   The vehicle proceeded down the short driveway and then followed the circular drive.  As it moved Mickey stepped out onto the balcony and took up a comfortable seated position on the small stool she had positioned there.  She was careful to keep the M200 sniper rifle well below the balcony wall and out of sight.

When the vehicle reached a spot exactly opposite the ornate heavy oak door of the villa it stopped.  The house door opened and out stepped two of the body guards of Mafia kingpin  Ricardo Maggio.  When the doors of the Mercedes opened the Don himself stepped out of the front door of the villa.  Maggio stepped forward with his hand extended to great one of the occupants of the Mercedes who approached Maggio with his back toward Mickey.

Mickey raised her weapon in one smooth motion, set the bipod on the sill of the balcony wall, aimed through the scope and gently stroked the trigger.  The weapon barked with a low sharp report but Mickey felt virtually no recoil as  she smoothly worked the bolt and reloaded.  Mickey mentally noted the ejected casing landing at her feet as she saw the hit on the first target.  She quickly moved the rifle to her second target and fired.

Quickly working the bolt again Mickey ejected both the spent cartridge and the final round from her rifle.  She bent and scooped up the one still hot empty casing on the floor. Keeping her rifle low she stepped back into the room, carefully closing the door without touching it.   Several seconds later the rifle was in its case and Mickey was moving out the door and down the hall.  As she approached the stairs she reached the floor’s maintenance room.  She opened the door and found the expected maintenance locker.  The rifle case went into the one unlocked empty locker.  She locked it with the lock hanging from the door and then quickly moved to the stair case and casually took the stairs down to the lobby floor.

Mickey moved through the lobby, attracting the usual attention and as usual ignored it.  There was no indication in the lobby that anything unusual had just transpired.    Mickey entered a waiting taxi and asked the driver to take her to the piazza in downtown Capri, a short five minute drive away.    As the taxi turned toward the city a police car roared by with lights flashing and siren blaring, going in the opposite direction.   Mickey reached into her purse and took out her lipstick.  She opened a compact and busied herself reapplying a thin coat of a nice shade of pink rose as the taxi completed the short trip.

Ricardo Maggio was proud that his hands were not shaking as he washed the last remnants of blood from them.  The bullet had torn through his guest, Ahad Al Kalhadi, just as Ricardo was reaching out to shake his future partner’s hand.  He was told that the bullet was armor piercing because Ahad’s protective vest under his coat had stopped neither the entry or the exit of the round.  The Arab was dead before he fell into Ricardo’s arms and covered the Mafia leader in his blood.

Maggio’s body guards had reacted instantaneously, forcibly grabbing their boss and pushing him quickly and roughly back into the house.  Still, they were several steps from the door when their heard the second shot.  Fortunately it has missed and they scampered inside the villa and slammed the armored door closed.

Outside, the former southern European leader of Al-Qaida ‘s body was thrown into his car by his two body guards.  The car screeched out of the driveway barely waiting for the armored gate to open.  It was gone long before the police arrived.

An hour later Ricardo finished his second class of chianti as his senior security guard entered his office.  “Are they gone?” he asked bluntly.

“Yes Sir.”

“What about Ahad?”

“He’s dead Sir.  His people are getting rid of the body.  They will be in touch, but it will take them several weeks to reorganize. Maybe months.”

Ricardo nodded.  “Yes.  That is to be expected.  Any idea who did this?

“We don’t know Sir.”

“Was it the Giovanni family?  Or the Carabinieri?”

“We don’t think it was anyone we have dealt with before and this isn’t the method of the police. “

“I want the island scourged for who did this.  Someone knows.”

“We have all our people searching the island. “

“Well we are just lucky that second shot missed me. That was too close.”

“Umm…Sir, we don’t think it missed.”

“What do you mean?”

“We found the second bullet.  It was embedded in the brass name plate on the door.  The bullet went straight through the center of the “A” in Maggio.”

“...Oh... I see.”

A short new adventure for my OC, Mickey Ramirez, working for the mysterious government agency with no name but lots of gadgets.

I had not planned on doing this but this and several other images popped into my head that I just had to render, and a connecting story followed soon after.

It will probably only be about six renders long. (I hope!) ;)
